Becoming a parent is both magical and stressful. On the one hand, you have your little bundle of joy in your arms, and on the other hand, you’re stressing about how to care for them.
After nine months of pregnancy, a few hours in the delivery room, you’re now excited to take your little miracle home and start your life as new parents. However, you go home and realize, you don’t know much about babies and how to handle your new role.
But fret not, we’re here to help! At Juniors Fresh, we offer you some of the best parenting advice and in this blog, we’ll help you overcome stress and feel confident as you care for your newborn baby.
Consider getting help after giving birth
Spending hours in labor and giving birth is no joke, you could be feeling tired, weak, and unwell, getting all the help you can get during this time will ensure you’re able to care for your baby.
Most hospitals have lactation consultants and feeding specialists who can help you with nursing and feeding your baby. Hospital nurses can also assist you in caring for your newborn, teaching you how to properly burp, hold, change and care for them.
If you’re eager to take your little bundle of joy home, hiring house help might also be a good idea. However, if that’s not possible asking friends and family can go a long way too.
How to handle a baby properly
Newborns are extremely fragile and for most new parents, it becomes a cause for concern. They feel like they can’t handle their baby without harming or getting them sick. However, that’s not true, sure, you do need to be clean and careful but it shouldn’t be that intimidating.
Be sure to wash your hands before you handle your baby, their immune systems aren’t as strong as yours, so they’re more likely to get sick or infected. Ensure anyone who holds your baby, washes their hands too. Supporting your baby’s neck is also essential. If you’re planning to take your newborn on a car ride, securely fasten them into a sturdy stroller, car seat, or carrier.
Everything you need to know about diapering
It doesn’t matter how small your baby is, they’ll be going through diapers and cleaning supplies like nobody’s business.
Alongside diapers, you’ll also need a changing table, diaper wipes, and diaper ointment. Be sure to change your baby’s diaper often, and as soon as they defecate.
Be extremely gentle when changing or wiping them. When you’re changing them at home, stick to lukewarm water and gentle soaps. Using diaper wipes frequently can irritate your child’s sensitive skin.
